Dr Bryan Gardiner

Innovate+ Principal Investigator

Dr Bryan Gardiner is a Reader in Computer Science and Deputy Head of the School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems at Ulster University. He leads the Intelligent Data Analytics (IDA) research team within the Intelligent Systems Research Centre, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, computer vision, and data-driven innovation for industry.

As Principal Investigator for Ulster University on the Innovate+ project, Bryan brings extensive experience in delivering large-scale, cross-border innovation programmes that support SME digital transformation. His work centres on translating cutting-edge AI research into practical, deployable solutions that enhance productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability across sectors.

Bryan has led and contributed to numerous funded projects in collaboration with industry and public-sector partners, with particular expertise in AI adoption, intelligent automation, and responsible use of emerging technologies. He is committed to supporting regional economic growth through innovation, skills development, and meaningful engagement with SMEs across Northern Ireland and the border region.
